Ocean Pond Campground, Osceola Nat. Forest, Florida
Day 17 - 364 miles
Sometimes I wonder... "Why is that Frisbee getting Larger?" ...and then it hits me..
Well, the Memorial Day weekend is no time to be cruisin the beach routes if you want to make time as well as see the sights. Cruising over the causeways is great, but the majority of the ride is just far enough from the gulf to be too hot.
Destin is downright beautiful... but it no longer deserves to be called a fishing village. It's full on 100% resortville. But the water is that perfect blue they try to recreate in swimming pools. (some pics are from the net... you can't always stop on the highway to take a pic)
Crossing over the Suwannee River was amusing. The sign includes the first two bars of the melody.
We eventually turned inland and found the Ocean Pond Campground in the Osceola National Forest. It's somewhat hidden away, out of the way, and is very well appointed with some 67 sites, including full utilities, just water sites, and primitive sites.
Total miles: 4327
