Gulf Shores Alabama

Day 15 - 245 miles

So of course the weather was ideal. I could have waited... but you never know, the weather is fickle and might have stormed on me if I'd waited. So backtracking to Alabama to spend some time on the beach felt odd, shouldn't be heading west again quite so soon. I started out on the Interstate and though how pretty it was... but an "hour" later I was only 36 miles down the road. Nice landscaping, lots of tall lush trees... for miles and miles and miles. The interstate is not the kind of road you want to be on on a motorcycle.

I was hungry but kept rejecting the Arbys and Hardees and Burger Kings, et. al., and then saw a sign that said Cozy Corner Diner. So if you are on the I-10 or the US-90, near Holt Florida, plan on eating at the Cozy Corner Diner. I had the fried catfish (maybe the best I've had,) hushpuppies, (the first I can say I actually liked,) garlic green beans and sweet potato fries. Outstanding! A special place to park your bike to boot. Psst, good looking waitresses too.

I went the rest of the way, into Pensacola, on US-90. Not the best road for cruising because it's very straight, but far far more entertaining scenery. I also ran across the first(?) brick highway in Florida. I didn't really pay attention to the sign until I was past it, 1928 I think, and it was pretty impressive all in all.

When you get near Pensacola, the bays and inlets are a refreshing change, and if you like the water, it really brings a smile to you face. I headed south toward the Gulf, to Perdido Key, and followed the road to Orange Beach and Gulf Shores, all upscale beach towns, (aren't they all upscale these days,) that are a pleasure to cruise through.

A week on the beach sounds great.

Total miles: 3943
