Fredricksburg and San Antonio, Texas

Day 9 - 278 miles

I no sooner loaded the bike but rain started to fall. So out came the riding covers and my Frog-Togs. Great gear to have, Frog-Togs. Easy to wear over my leathers and easy to ride in. The rain never got too hard but enough that I was glad to have them on. The highways were fine but the bottoms of the ramps were slick with wet oil. I could feel my back wheel jump with the slightest over-application of torque.

But it cleared and began to warm by the time I arrived in Fredricksburg. Interesting downtown, devoted to tourism. Lots of interesting places to eat, I picked the Auslander and had a great sausage sandwich, potato pancakes as a side, mmm. .

The roads in the area are indeed scenic and bike friendly, lots of twisties with quick elevation changes. And very pretty countryside, imo, as compared to the flats of West Texas. Rivers and lakes, lots of those aided by dikes and damns. Trees instead of scrub, and about a hundred different shades of green. The local roads dip down to aid river crossings and each one has a 'flood guage' at the low points. Interesting approach, I've seen similar in California, only different. LOL. It was all dry for me though.

After lunch I made my way to San Antonio. Harsh traffic, I arrived at the wrong time.

The Alamo tomorrow and then backtracking through Fredricksburg again up towards Llano.

Total miles: 2326
