Gardner Massachusetts

Day 32 - 303 Miles

Four States today as we make our way to Concord and Lexington, this time for a little Revolutionary War history. Looking forward to that tomorrow.

Driving through and out of Jersey we saw a obelisk monument and found out it marked the High Point in the state. They even have a park surrounding it... but they charge admission whether you want to spend the day or just a minute... and it's per vehicle, so a van with 20 people is only $5 but our two bikes is $10... so we skipped it and took pictures from afar.

None-the-less it was a nice day, saw a "famous" railroad turntable from the old Erie R.R. in Port Jervis just as we crossed from New Jersey to New York. Very cool, electrically operated in it's latter years, still connected, and the original 'single' circular rail that the turntable engine ran on.

We continued on and paralleled a "linear park" which followed the old D&H Canal. I'll have to read up on the history of this waterway. Then it's up and over the Appalachians and an honest to god switchback ala the European Alps. A 5 mph turn... but only one. We crossed the Hudson at Poughkeepsie and cut through the northwest corner of Connecticut.

No sooner had we crossed into Connecticut than it started to rain. But this was nothing like what we experienced in the south, so it was pretty inconsequential to us... not that it didn't send all the local riders ducking for cover.

We ended the day in Massachusetts.

Total Miles: 8535
